IST/Switch is designed as a modular system, developed using C/C++. It is composed of multiple sub-systems with each sub-system having its own functionality. This allows for the flexibility for the developers to enhance the system in accordance to the requirements and specifications of NBL. It is also developed following the ISO standard. As such, it is capable of handling the industry standard transactions.

IST/Switch is capable of running 7X24X365. As it has been developed using the modular design, stopping of a module would not cause the entire system to shut down.
